When it comes to Libra traits and characteristics I am always surprised by the amount of nonsense that is written about this sign of the Zodiac.
In my experience of analysing each of the signs of the Zodiac, Libra traits and characteristics tends to be the sign that causes the most confusion. This is especially true when it comes to Libra negative traits and characteristics.
In this special profile of the Libra sign I will set the record straight once and for all. I will detail the three worst traits of Libra and then in a follow up report I will detail the three most positive Libra traits and characteristics.
Let’s face it, there is no such thing as a perfect horoscope sign. All horoscopes from Aries all the way to Gemini to Capricorn, all of them have flaws, but all of them have great sides as well – and that is the secret to understanding the zodiac.
You really need to understand that we are all created with possibilities.
These possibilities tend to skew in certain directions, and that’s why all twelve Zodiac signs have certain specializations and tend to skew towards certain tendencies where there are weaknesses and strengths.
However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that we can’t transcend or rise above what we’re born with and truly live up to our fullest potential.
Still, the fullest potential most horoscope signs can aspire to, is to become really polished in regards to what nature dealt them.
I believe that we all start with a blank slate, we all start with negative aspects and positive aspects to our personalities – it really is a matter of choice as to whether we will let the negative aspect take over and shape our personalities and destinies. This is especially true when it comes to Libra’s key traits.
Alternatively, we can focus on the positive aspects of our lives to shape our destinies as well. Keep in mind, when it comes to shaping factors, we are shaped both by internal dynamics as well as external dynamics.
Too many people focus on the external things.
Libra personalities tend to think that all human beings are creatures primarily of factors and forces taken out of control. To a certain extent this is true, but if you take it to a logical conclusion, you can’t help but walk away with the realization that life is not worth living.
Think about it, if you are just the product of external circumstances, then you really have no control – you really have no choice and life is not worth living.
You have to make the right choices so that the positive aspects of your horoscope personality truly shine forth and can lead you to a life that is personally fulfilling and satisfying.
Why am I going through this discussion when talking about negative Libra characteristics? Very simply these negative traits are true. All Libras have them.
However, not all Libra signs express them. Why? Because they choose the positive traits of their being.
They choose the positive path that leads to greater happiness – happiness that you cannot only see, but happiness that informs and fuels their lives so that they can reach higher and higher levels of spiritual, emotional and psychological fulfilment.
When it comes to Libra’s key traits everything is a choice.
As easily as it may seem to look at the horoscope as a blanket prediction that you cannot deviate from, you really have a lot of choice.
You can always put yourself in different situations and circumstances to produce different outcomes.
Life inherently, horoscope or not is a series of choices, don’t ever forget that. With that out of the way, here are my top three negative Libra traits and characteristics.
Libra Traits and a Failure to Commit
Libra signs are defined as scales and worst of all, these scales are held up in the air – they are not in the water, they are not fixed in stone.
The reason I emphasized scales in the air is the fact that anything can happen, and with the air, there is very little resistance – you can be up in the air and have all of your plans up in the air and your life up in the air and nothing really changes.
Sure, you age, you buy stuff, you move from point A to point B – but from a deep and real level, nothing really changes. This is the curse of the Libra.
Why? They think that life is a question of balancing and weighing and comparing the pros and cons. This can only take you so far.
In the case of many Libra signs, this trait doesn’t take you far enough. You can live your life basically stuck and there’s really nothing you can do about it.
This is the fate of many Libras and they know deep down that this is negative. The reality is that at one point in your life, you have to get off the fence. This negative trait is most commonly found in the Libra male personality.
Constantly weighing things means that you are stuck in analysis paralysis – you’re stuck, you’re not moving forward.
For you to truly grow you have to make a decision, you have to commit. Unfortunately, most Libra signs have failed to commit; they are afraid of commitment.
You really need to make the right choices to get over this hurdle; otherwise, you would feel that you’ve wasted your life. Instead of reaching the highest heights, you’re stuck on a middle ground that feels mediocre – that really goes nowhere.
Libra has a Tendency to Manipulate
One of the worst Libra traits is that Libra signs can be quite shallow and superficial. Their shallowness and superficiality often gives them a ticket to many different social settings than other horoscope signs.
It’s easy for Libra to get along with other people. This is precisely why many Libra’s with this trait have a tendency to manipulate. Since they know how to get on people’s good side, they can also dig deep and see what their weaknesses are.
Once Libra can see their weaknesses, they can manipulate people, seduce people, get them to do things they normally would not want to do, you can betray friendships, they can do all sorts of things. Libra women are particularly “famous” for this negative trait.
Many Libras think that this is a special power. Many Libras think that this is something that they should celebrate about themselves. Actually, this is a serious failure. It’s a serious negative trait.
Why? People aren’t born to be manipulated. People are not made to be pawns of other people’s objectives. You shouldn’t have a hidden agenda, don’t manipulate – how your agenda, show people why you are doing things and where you need them to go.
One common cause of the break-up of Libra friendship is when the non-Libra friend feels that he or she is just being used. Don’t be a user.
Unfortunately, many Libras do well as users because it doesn’t take any effort. It doesn’t take deep commitment. You’re just in the middle and you’re just working and manipulating things – kind of like a puppet master.
Well, once your friends or lovers catch on, there will be hell to pay. It may be fun and easy now, but eventually, if this will catch up to you, you don’t want to grow old alone and hated because you’ve manipulated people.
Libra’s Lazy Traits
One of the most negative traits the Libra has is laziness.
There are two types of laziness – One is actually not laziness at all. This form of laziness is when you feel that you have to weigh things in your mind that you can’t take action. You can take action, you are able to take action – but you choose not to because you are weighing things.
You’re always going around and look for pros and cons, trying to figure out the best course of action – this is the most common Libra laziness. However, there is another form, which is just regular laziness.
Libra is sometimes just physically unable or unwilling to do the job.
They would rather sleep, they would rather do things that are easy, and they would rather do things that are pleasurable. This is the main theme which is described in more detail in my Libra Love Horoscope for 2014.
In a certain way, Libra laziness is a human nature doing pleasurable stuff. Instead of toiling away in the office, you need to take it to the higher level process your perspective. As negative as this may be, this also can be a positive trait too.
Why? Many Libras are also smart.
Since they want to avoid work, they would then devise workarounds like software or automation, outsourcing, delegation, and systems building management to make sure that they don’t do any ‘hard” work.
Libras that are able to do these things are totally successful, and that’s the paradox of the Libra personality traits when it comes to laziness. Laziness can either lead to great successes in life or material riches, or it can lead to a mediocre existence.
There are many Libras that are not poor, so just because they are lazy doesn’t mean that they are doomed to poverty. However, it does increase the chances of them feeling really unfulfilled and frustrated in life and this is one of the worst forms of poverty.

Wow, thank you for this. Seriously boosted my outlook. I need to get up and shower, even though it’s 11:09 and my lecture isn’t until 1. No chilling!

Yeah, talk about facing demons. About the laziness. I am only selectively lazy. If I don’t feel an endeavor will be worth it, and sometimes it takes a while to even figure that out, then I will let it go. Otherwise I try to maintain an open mind regarding my work ethics and their rewards. I’m not afraid of hard work. My issue is just deciding whether or not it’s worthwhile considering my long term goals. Overall though it does indeed suck to be on the fence. I feel that most Libras spend their lives their because of the severe indecision. That’s why I try to approach my decisions in an open yet determined way.

The manipulation thing really hits home. I have a real kind of inviting personality of sorts. I meet people and somehow they end up spilling their entire lives to me. Before I know it they tell me so many deep personal things about themselves. First off I’m left thinking, wow I can’t believe they were so open like that. Then if they become an acquaintance I know them well enough to make our interactions go how I want. I have never used anyone. I detest such a thing and it’s not my style. BUT if there is a topic I don’t want to discuss or a conflict to avoid I know exactly how to make my associates steer clear. But on some level I feel that’s bad too because I’m taking away their way of expressing themselves and their feelings. It’s a lose-lose situation as it were.

The “failure to commit” does need some serious elaboration though. What is often forgotten and/or disappear in the explanation about libra traits are Libras intelligence which is THE major force in our habit of weighing things. Hence libras does not “weighing” for the sake of weighing but that it is there for a reason. Usually laughed off or ridiculed by more uncautious signs before them being burned by the fire, more often then not making the mistake again and again.
Yes we weight things but we also do know that if we are doing things either x will happen or b. If factor b is a possibility we will act but choises and options may prevent us from act why we think it is better to hold our ground. Why? Because we´ve may already have tried our options and before making a decision is able to foresee the outcome. And libras are very reluctant of making the same mistake twice. Simply, we doesnt weight things to prevent us from moving forward but in order to creating the perfect circumstances for doing so.
I think this is whats Libras better trait but could of course be negative since many are stucked in the process when not have created the perfect circumstances for their decisions. Like that the laziness could create.
I would rather change the “failure to commit” to “sitting on a high horse”. Because many libras has in an adult age already analyzised things throughout. We have often a perfect understanding of the world and its people (or think we have!) why the laziness could occur because many libras simply wont do hard work for “lesser” people. Many libras thinks highly of themselves and this could be a serious danger given the possibility of manipulating and the other negative traits.

I’m Leo male trying to understand how to learn from the past and be honest about neglecting other people. My relationship was Libra female. These traits amounted to my criticisms of Libra. And constituted my self-important defense of work ethic and refusal to accept a puppet master. I’ll never really understand Libra at all and I’m surprised they are often described as compatible. In many ways, I think we are more like each other’s perfect enemy. And that raises further questions that seem to indicate the need for couples to involve third parties to help them when this rock of certainty becomes to slip away.
